S1 VII. Steam noise

Post by brentley2 »

I just changed out the boiler element in my S1 and replaced the gasket. The gasket was literally nothing but goo and had to be scraped off of the top of the boiler. The anti-vacuum valve was changed as well when the machine was apart.

After closing the boiler back up and powering back on I am getting a weird sort of intermittent steam leak that I cannot find. There is not any visible water anywhere but about every minute there is a brief noise and then boiler kicks back on.

Are there parts outside of the vacuum breaker that need to be cleaned / replaced? I am going to take the machine apart gain over the weekend and use a stethascope to try to find out where the leak is coming from.

Are the screws that hold on the boiler lid tight enough?

Hopefully this is not a repeat.

1. I was able to tighten all of the screws and the steam noise did indeed stop.
2. Now it looks / feels like the boiler is over full. The first startup dumped a lot of water through the vacuum breaker. I was also getting lots of water from the stteam wand. Is there an alternative to the vacuum breaker? Is the cup that I have seen on other machines available somewhere online or can I just sort of make one? Is there a way to somehow route that water to a the drip tray? Should I just change the fill probe out? The current one has never been changed (I cannot recall if I did it before).
3. The boiler triac cycles on about every minute or so for couple of seconds which feels like new bahavior to me but I may jusy be watching super closely. Could this indicate that the temp probe (which I believe is a regular pt1000) is bad? I have a bunch of PT1000 that use with my 3d printers so is it even possible to change it or is it worth just purchasing from Chris?
4. This machine pre-dates the firmware update that adds pre-infusion and I never got that done. Is the only remaining way to do it just to purchase a new board? Is it actually worth doing?
