Dream T no burn steam wand

Post by 08hh85 »

Hi all,

I just got my new setup, a red Dream T and Vario-W. I did not realize that it doesn't come with a no burn steam wand  I think it should be standard with a dual boiler right?
Well, after a couple days of using it I decided to purchased a replacement from Chris Coffee and along with the 4 hole tip. Don't know why they couldn't swap it out and they didn't even tell me that the tip wasn't for the "no burn". I kinda disappointed a little bit because I expect them to at least warn me about the wrong part. That's enough for venting :o My question for anyone in here with the S1 Dream is to see if you replace your steam wand as well. If so, can you instruct me how to do it? I could not find any diagram or video online. I know that you need to unscrew the want out from the bottom but it seems tight to fit any wrench up. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Best regards,
-H

I tried the no-burn wand on my previous V2 and hated it. MY GS/3 came with a no-burn wand standard and as soon as they came out with a full-burn replacement, I swapped it out. The no burn wands work by placing a plastic tube inside the metal wand to insulate the steam from the metal. Therefore, the diameter of the tube the steam has to run through to get out is very restricted and the resulting steam is wimpy. The real difference in the tips for the no-burn wand are a couple of O rings that insulate the tip from the wand so that the heat from the tip doesn't conduct back up the wand.

They do make an adapter so that you can use full-burn tips on a no-burn wand but that defeats the purpose.

BTW: Check out this post from a few years back: Wand R&R. Wand removal at this point is best done with a 9mm open end wrench.

Here's an alternative to the no burn wand that's gets you to the same place:

Steam Wand Heat Protector Sleeve

You can add one or more to the one that comes on the wand to cover as much of the wand surface as you want.

I tried to replace the steam arm last night but it needs a much bigger than 9mm open wrench. I used all the wrench I have but they are not big enough. I will probably need a 7/8 wrench :-?

If you think you need a larger than 9mm wrench then you are not trying to remove just the arm tube (all you really need to replace) at the spot shown by the two arrows in the photo linked (Wand R&R) in my earlier post.

If you want to remove it at the larger brass nut that is OK, too, just a little more work than required. BTW: we're solidly in metric land here so that would be 22mm or 23mm, not 7/8"

I just check and it seems that my steam wand is one piece. It does not connect to the spot show by the arrow and the nut is not brass so I think they changed it. On the no burn steam wand I can see where the 9mm wrench would fit and I have tried taking it off but too bad that I might have to do the long way. Do you have any other suggestion?

Thank you much!
