Fan cycles on and off continuously

Post by triathlon61 »

The machine works fine, then the fan cycles on then off, on and off for long periods of time. Doesn’t seem to be a pattern to it.

The fan should come on whenever the steam boiler is On and it should go off as soon as the steam boiler turns off. Is the steam boiler turning on and off too often or is it just the fan?

When the red Boiler light is on steady the boiler heater is off and the fan should be also off. When the red boiler light is blinking the boiler is on and the fan should also be on.

I assume you have an older system that uses a pair of triac boards to control power to each boiler, since the newer machines have a dual SSR module which I don't believe requires a fan.

Both triac boards are identical even though only the steam boiler triac (the one closer to the front of the machine) has a fan. Therefore if it seems to be a problem with the fan control, the cheapest solution would be to swap the position of the two triac boards. That way the triac board with the bad fan control will be used for the group boiler which doesn't have a fan. This is certainly cheaper than spending $40 plus shipping for a new triac board.

However, if you find that the fan is going on and off randomly and the steam boiler is doing the exact same thing, then you probably should get a new triac board.
