When citric acid fails

Post by robertdrucker »

In my previous post (S1V1 Motor (one more time)) I have pictures of a badly neglected boiler. I have repeated the citric acid bath three times over the last four days, and am still left with some very hard residue at the bottom of the boiler, as well as some on the sides. I am wondering if it is safe to use a wire brush at the end of a drill to try to remove the remaining residue. I assume there are brushes that would be soft enough not to damage the lining, but don't know for sure. Any suggestions would be most welcome!
