New Doserless funnel on Mazzer Super Jolly

Post by rhinoevans »

Here are some pic with a Doserless funnel attached to a Super Jolly. Purchased on ebay for $75. I have the back plate on order from espressoparts.com and should be delivered tomorrow. The original SJ lid kinda fits. The funnel is a little larger that the doser, so the lids fits just inside the top of funnel. Workable. Guy who makes the funnel is currently working on a lid. Cost way less than a Mazzer funnel for $280. So for funnel and backplate: $110. I use bottomless Portafilter for original fork not a problem. Would not work with normal Portafilter. Would require purchase of a different Portafilter rest.
Ps. Wish I knew how to post pics instead of links!!!

Thank you for posting the pictures.
I am seriously considering this alternative since the price is so much better.
How is the fit on the body? The cylinder is larger than the Mazzer body right?
Doesn't the bead on the top rim prevent a proper attachment?
Thanks again

I have a serious problem ... Can you guess what?

The fit is good. Flush against the body
Bead is higher so no problems
The last pic looks like a gap but the super jolly body actually has a slight contour away from the funnel

Thank you again.
I will probably get this funnel a chance.
Shipping to Canada is really a little over the top... :-?

Just installed the backing plate. Takes a 5/64 drill bit for the 2 small screws if you get the Mazer screws. Drills easy into the SJ body. Actually tightened up the inside bolts with a 10mm socket and fits much better. Very tight and flush.. Before was just hand tightened.

For what it worth, I have used a DL Rocky for 10 years, and although the DL Super Jolly is nice, I was kinda liking the Doser. All those post about get a DL, in fact the Doser is not all that bad, even for single user home use. Atleast on the Mazzer, I can sweep the chute real time which wasn't possible with the Rocky.

I can't tell from the picture. Is there a hole in the body without the backing plate, or is it just for a finished look?
