More secure mounting for steam arm

Post by GentleGiant »

I had a situation where the steam arm came loose and started flopping around - the arm, ball joint and knob all together.

A call to Chris' netted a quick call back from Roger who instructed me to
  • Remove the cover from the knob
Unscrew the small bolt revealed in the center
    Remove the knob
Tighten the locknut around the knob's shaft
This was easily enough done, but I'm a bit surprised that a frequently manipulated part, carrying hot steam, is not secured by anything more than a simple locknut.

Some kind of bracket or connection of the ball joint to the frame or front panel would mean this locknut does not bear the load of holding everything in place as the steam arm is moved around.

Agreed on all your points. I actually keep the proper size socket in a near by draw because it needs to be tightened frequently.

Interesting. This hasn't happened to me once in two years.

This one still has never happened to me in 4+ years and through two S1s but it occasionally still happens to some people. Not sure a redesign is required. If it happens to anyone more than once, they should probably pick up a small vial of locktite.
