Freezing whole bean coffee
Freezing whole bean coffee
I have a hard time keeping the right amount of fresh coffee at my house, so I've been ordering in bulk (e.g. 6 or 8 1-lb bags) and freezing the vacuum sealed bags, but my wife things it makes the coffee taste stale. What are your thoughts? Is it OK to freeze?

Re: Freezing whole bean coffee
I freeze mine all the time. As long as you don't take it out, let it thaw and refreeze, it should be good. I like to put my vacuum sealed bags in a freezer baggie just for another measure of freshness. Early on in my coffee hobby, I was confused. People kept saying only buy enough to last you 8 or 10 days, then roasters are enticing you to buy multiple bags. So, I asked Paradise Roasters about that. They said freezing is the answer.

I have been freezing my beans for many years. I divide the beans into smaller amounts (1/4 lb) and freeze in glass mason jars.
