Re: Brand new Mini, nothing happens when hitting coffee button..

This may be a long shot but here it goes. When I got my S1, the first few times I plugged it in It was behaving very strangely. Since I did not know how it worked and didn't wait until I had read the manual first, I just plugged and unplugged the unit multiple times. Eventually it just started to li...

Re: Iced Espresso

Thank you for the suggestion and recipe. I am convinced that my wife will love it (with a little sugar). The leaves are turning red and the days are such that we, at my northern latitude, are so inclined on cold drinks like an iced espresso! Brrrr! We will keep the idea in our back pocket. Warm days...

Re: Anything I should do to my new vivaldi II 0r just use it?

Bizarre! I was plenty happy with my grinder until I read this last post... Now I have grinder envy... ;-) And by the way As I wrote in the P/I thread. It's ok to tamp lighter with a 53 mm... You know what? I have further reduced my tamp pressure and now, with the P/I set at 5 seconds and an increase...

Re: Pre-infusion tests results

Sorry to interupt this heated discussion... To answer John. Yes, there is lever valve on the right of the picture to adjust for flow. To answer "W.", I hear you on the pressure fluctuation but have not seen any here so far. Also, since you are sayng that increased pressure would red...

Re: Pre-infusion tests results

Yes it does! When I mentioned "Water main pressure, measured at the group head, builds up in about 3 seconds from 0 to 56 psig, stable after." I meant really measured at the group head with an external pressure gauge mounted on a portafilter apparatus. Here's the apparatus: pressure appara...

Re: Anything I should do to my new vivaldi II 0r just use it?

I weigh the dose most of the time these days because I am trying to learn the effect of anythng and everything. I know, I know, I messing around with to many variables at the same time... I love to play... I vary the dose between 16 and 18 grams. Most of the time I am around 16.5 grams. With ...

Re: Pre-infusion tests results

Tests results continued... I repeated with the same 5 seconds setting and got pretty much the same results. Very repeatable. 5 seconds fresh grinds repeat1.jpg 5 seconds fresh grinds repeat2.jpg One thing that most be noted is that I get darkening or slight drops build-up around the edge of the bask...

Pre-infusion tests results

After making a few conmments on pre-infusion (P/I) without knowing what I was taking about  (I was just relying on what I read on the subject), I decided to actually do a few experiments of my own and share it with you. Basic experiment set-up: Water main pressure, measured at the group hea...

Re: Anything I should do to my new vivaldi II 0r just use it?

Yeah I know... I just didn't take the time to experiment yet. When the shot is built and it starts it is hard to stop it and throw away what could be a good shot... I just couldn't resist today. I had guest over for coffee this afternoon and collected the stray grinds (somehow my manipulation...

Re: Day (week) one problems and solutions

Two things here; I think that the noise may in fact be partly caused by patially obstructed/disrupted flow due to misalignment of the fan with the air holes. But I also think that the fan body being more or less compressed, when torqued down, may lift the other end and create a vibration of the whol...

Re: Day (week) one problems and solutions

Wow! What a change. Thanks for the knudge... The noise wasn't so bad so I though that my Vivaldi was one of the quiet one. I assumed that it was normal and almost left it as it was. To all reading this, installing the spacers, indeed putting nuts that thighten the fan body and the frame at...

You mean "no more noise at all from the outside"?

If so, I will put spacers today!

Re: Day (week) one problems and solutions

Nope. Nut was there just loose. One of the last issue I have is the fan. How noisy or not should it be? I hear it clearly. Kind of a winning noise not really loud. I guess the noise level that is acceptable is the noise level that I am willing to put up with but I'm wondering if putting spacer will ...

Re: Anything I should do to my new vivaldi II 0r just use it?

Mr. JohnB poked my curiosity and I did go to check on the H-B forum and believe that I found what he was refering to: http://www.home-barista.com/espresso-machines/how-to-preinfuse-extraction-pressure-redux-t1302.html If you are interested. In this little experiment the commentators are mentioning 6...

Re: Anything I should do to my new vivaldi II 0r just use it?

I have read a lot of posts where people are planning or recommending the installation of a pressure regulator on the intake water line. I will naively ask why? What reason is there? There should really be no pressure and leak issue anywhere with the machine. I've taken it apart and seen no cause for...

No. Actually to get access to the retainning nut you have to pull the knob off.

And for the threads. I got the proper adaptor already so no issue.

Re: Day (week) one problems and solutions

Hello Chas. Really did not pay any attension to the color of wires. Your suggestion on the reason for the color changes seems reasonable to me. For the thread size, it is tricky to be really sure. I measure both the pitch and outer diameter and try to find a match in the Machinery's Handbook and the...

Day (week) one problems and solutions

Hello everyone. Hello everyone. This is my first post on the site. Been reading for a while though. I am not a newbee to espresso per say but I am still on the steep of the learning curve so bear with me, please. Well anyway I am writing this to give everyone a bit of my experience with openning the...
